Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program Summer 2021
The Aquiline Group is pleased to present its DC Public Schools (DCPS) Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) interns for summer 2021. We are hosting two DCPS student interns to work on our Rip magazine project (Rip), which provides cultural and educational enrichment opportunities to students outside of the classroom. In July and August, the Rip interns are helping with creative development and execution of a communications campaign—“Broadband: Future of Learning for Everyone”—to promote the Federal Communications Commission’s Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program to DCPS administrators, families, and the community at large.
The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected students’ learning over the last year and a half and has created learning gaps in low- and moderate-income communities in DC and across the nation. Students need access to high-speed Internet to connect to online instruction, school programs, and other educational opportunities. Therefore, it’s important that families in DC are made aware of, and have access to, temporary Federal government assistance from the EBB program. The window for applying to the EBB program is up until six months after the U.S. government declares an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, or until the program runs out of funding, whichever occurs first.
The EBB program provides a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
